![]() This probably was the hardest thing for me to learn to do on my journey to self-love. I have always believed that the more people know about you the more they can manipulate you. This fear of being hurt and being manipulated kept me closed off from my emotions and from connecting to people for a very long time. After being in an emotionally unstable relationship for 13 years I definitely find it hard to trust people. The idea of being vulnerable with anyone especially a potential love interest was terrifying to me and sometimes it still is. It’s safe to say that vulnerability was a bad word in my vocabulary.
![]() That all changed a few years ago when I was online and I came across a Ted Talk video on vulnerability. Brené Brown explains so beautifully how the happiest people in the world are those who can allow themselves to be fully vulnerable and authentic. No matter how scary or how ugly that might look at first. When you open up yourself to someone and when you allow yourself to share who you really are you always keep your head held high. In being vulnerable, you allow yourself to fully be you and completely authentic. Yes being vulnerable has hurt my feelings and has disappointed me on my journey, but with every hurt and every disappointment I only come out stronger. It has given me the courage to keep on being vulnerable. Because although I might get hurt at times, I feel proud to be me and I feel proud of being real no matter how intense or how crazy that looks to anyone. I am so in love with the fact that after all the hurt and pain from my past I can be me; someone who feels strongly, cares deeply and loves even harder. Check out Brené Brown in her Ted Talk below!! |
